Summer Camps

We're excited to be offering Sewing, Robotics, and Technology Camps this summer!

Sewing Camps

 

Campers learn sewing machine and hand sewing skills, sewing safety, and camps include all supplies and snacks.  Ages 9 and up unless otherwise specified.

Instructors:  Allyson Heidenfelder was taught by her mother and has been sewing since she can remember.  She created her first solo apparel outfit at the age of 13.  She began quilting in her 20’s and has enjoyed the art ever since.  She is joined by her mother, Alice Cottrell, who is an accomplished apparel sewer and costume designer.  Additionally, Lynda Kay, is an accomplished quilter.  Camp counselors, Kyla and Hannah Cottrell, and Derek Heidenfelder are experienced sewers and excited to lead the campers on their exciting sewing adventure.

4-H Kitchen and Sewing Camp
June 28-July 2 9-12am
$100
Campers will learn a variety of sewing, crafting and cooking skills.  Campers learn sewing machine and hand sewing skills, sewing safety, and cooking safety.  All supplies included.

Shirts, shorts, and skirts camp

June 7-11

Campers will learn the basics of apparel sewing including zippers, elastic casings, and collars.  Campers will learn a variety of sewing, sewing machine and hand sewing skills, and safety.  All supplies and snacks included.

Quilt Camp

July 19-23, 31 9am-12pm
$235
Campers will learn the basics of piecing a quilt top.  Students will learn cutting, reading instructions, sewing machine skills, and sewing safety.  Campers will complete their quilt top during the 5 day camp and their top will be machine quilted so that they can return the following Saturday to bind and label their finished quilt.  All supplies and snacks included.

Sewing for a Sleepover

July 5-9
$185
Campers will sew pajama shorts, a pillow case and a sleepover bag. Campers will learn a variety of sewing, sewing machine and hand sewing skills, and safety.  All supplies and snacks included.


4-H Clover Buds Beginning Sewing Camp For 5-8 year olds

June 14-15 OR July 17-18 ($25) 10am to 12pm.
Campers will create a pillow. Supplies and snacks included.

Stuffed Animal Camp

(Three Day Camp) June 21-23,  9am to 12pm
$105
Campers will create a stuffed animal while learning sewing, sewing machine and hand sewing skills and safety.  All supplies and snacks included.


 

Robotics / Technology Camps

 

Instructors: Lanny is a retired IBM employee in various software and education roles.  He and his wife Allyson, the co- instructor have led the 4-H Yancey County Robotics Program winning numerous regional and state awards.

Robotics Camp
June 7-11 or July 19-23, 1-4pm
$150
Campers will design and program robots to complete a variety of challenging activities.
Snacks are provided.

Drone Programming Camp

June 14-18 or July 5-9, 1-4pm
$175
Campers will learn how to fly a drone safely, as well as program a drone to fly autonomously and complete challenges.
Snacks are provided.

4-H Java Programming Camp

Aug 2-6, 1-4pm
$40
(proceeds benefit the Yancey County 4-H Robotics Program)
Campers will learn the basics of structured Java Programming.
Snacks are provided.
