Campers learn sewing machine and hand sewing skills, sewing safety, and camps include all supplies and snacks. Ages 9 and up unless otherwise specified.
Instructors: Allyson Heidenfelder was taught by her mother and has been sewing since she can remember. She created her first solo apparel outfit at the age of 13. She began quilting in her 20’s and has enjoyed the art ever since. She is joined by her mother, Alice Cottrell, who is an accomplished apparel sewer and costume designer. Camp counselors, Kyla Cottrell, and Derek Heidenfelder are experienced sewers and excited to lead the campers on their exciting sewing adventure.
Sew you want to Quilt Camp
June 6 - 10 9am-12:30pm
Campers will learn the basics of piecing a quilt top. Students will learn cutting, reading instructions, sewing machine skills, and sewing safety. Campers will complete their quilt top during the 5 day camp and their top will be machine quilted so that they can return the following Saturday to bind and label their finished quilt. All supplies and snacks included.
Stitchin’ in the Kitchen
June 27 -July 1 9:00 – 12:30pm
Campers will sew pajama shorts, a pillow case and a sleepover bag. Campers will learn a variety of sewing, sewing machine and hand sewing skills, and safety. All supplies and snacks included.
Instructors: Lanny is a retired IBM employee in various software and education roles. He and his wife Allyson, the co-instructor, have led the 4-H Yancey County Robotics Program winning numerous regional and state awards.
June 6-10, 1:30-4:30pm
Campers will design and program robots to complete a variety of challenging activities.
Snacks are provided.
Bring Electronics to the Basics Makers Camp
June 27-July 1 1:30-4:30 pm
Campers will build and program several projects using an Arduino like microprocessor and a breadboard. Snacks are provided.
Sun, STEAM, and Service
July 18-22 9am - 4:30pm
Campers will explore all the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics through a variety of hands-on learning and service activities. Main instructors are Rebecca, a Randolph College Biology and Dance graduate and her mother, Allyson. All supplies included.
